Del Mar Beach Resort at Camp Pendleton & the journey to Clear Lake

We stayed briefly at Escondido RV Park August 5th and 6th. The boys loved riding their new bicycles on the paved roads and dipping in the hot tub without getting yelled at. Next we headed to Del Mar Beach Resort at Camp Pendleton to meet my brother Steve, Hailey and Ashlynn for a few days.

We lucked out and got 2 spots together that were a short walk to the beach. Class A motorhome in one and the large 5th wheel in the other. Watching the large military vehicles and the Marines every morning and evening was a highlight for the boys. It was great to spend time with the cousins swimming, boogie boarding, kicking the soccer ball around, tossing the football, playing a toss game, eating s'mores on the campfire and making memories. After hugs and goodbyes, we left August 9th. Our initial plan was to head north along the coast to Pismo Beach. Deciding we didn't want to get stuck in Los Angeles traffic, we headed east towards Temecula for the night and stayed at Pachenga RV Resort. This was a huge resort which also had a hotel and casino. We took the shuttle bus to the casino for dinner. The boys were mad they couldn't play any "games" (aka slot machines). Bonus of the night was a new wine glass and beer glass to add to our collection 😂  The pool, hot tub and WiFi made the boys happy. The pull-through site made John happy that he didn't have to disconnect the Fiesta from the RV. We got a fairly early start in the morning and settled in for a very long day of driving I5 North. Terrible road conditions. I have never seen so many pot holes on a major highway before. A flat tire in a 35' RV towing a car would be a catastrophe. It was after 10pm when we finally stopped for the night across the street from a gas station on the way to Clear Lake. All of the rest stops we saw were closed. Wyatt had already fallen asleep in his bunk bed. Aiden couldn't sleep. Ginormous mosquitos got in through the ripped screens. John went outside and fixed the screen and got a dozen bites in the process. Aiden and I got bit up inside. It also smelled awful here. Some nasty unidentifiable smell. We were all miserable. John decided to drive further down the road and found a wide pull out to crash for a few hours. We woke up bright and early. We headed to our next stop: Clear Lake to meet the Funke cousins.

Holidays with Family were amazing!!

Most holidays on Oahu we spent alone because it was simply too far for family to come visit for the major holidays. One of our main reasons ...
